Rockford residents getting more room to recycle

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Larger recycling bins are coming to 51,000 homes in Rockford.

The 32-gallon bins will replace the current 18-gallon bins this spring. Rockford is currently in the midst of finalizing a seven-year contract with Rock River Disposal for waste removal.

According to a report by our media partners at the Rockford Register Star, the city's recycling rate is usually below the national average and Illinois Recycling Association President Marta Keane hopes the larger bins will help encourage residents to recycle more.
