17th Circuit Court announces new judge


Local attorney Francis M. Martinez has selected as an Associate Judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit.

Martinez was chosen by 17th Circuit Judges and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Associate Judge Steven G. Vecchio. He will take his oath of office on February 3.

Chief Judge Joseph G. McGraw said, "Mr. Martinez is a talented attorney with over thirty years of practice experience. His extensive trial experience and unwavering work ethic will make him an excellent addition to our judiciary in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court. We look forward to his service in our justice system."

Martinez has a B.A. in Economics from Washington University and an M.B.A. in Finance from DePaul University. He received his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1983. He operated his own law practice in Rockford for most of his career, focusing on criminal defense and juvenile court matters.
