Dakota senior wrestler Josh Alber has never lost a match in high school. He made sure to keep it that way in the Dvorak Invitational championship match against top-ranked Jered Cortez of Glenbard North. The 132-lb. Alber won 5-3 in overtime on a takedown.
"This is what I train for all year," Alber said. "I kind of put a little more stock into this than the state tournament. This means the whole season to me, really."
Alber pushed his undefeated record past the 150 win mark in the tournament hosted by Harlem High School.
Three other Dakota wrestlers finished as runners-up in their weight-classes. J.J. Wolfe lost to Nick Gil of Crystal Lake South in the 138-lb. division, while Carver James fell to Montini's Chris Garcia in the 145-lb. finals. Daniel Zimmerman lost the 220-lb. title match to Harlem's Sage Hecox, while Kailor Hecox fell in the 195-lb. finals to Lockport's Tyler Johnson.
