Imagine getting a surprise in your classroom, when you're dressed like Ron Burgundy. Perry Elementary's Mrs. Jenny Midgett can relate. She swapped the red blazer for a green one, though, as I presented her with the Teacher of the Week honor.
It was part of an all-staff dress up day, when she was caught by our cameras, as we gave her the honor. A student nominated her, very fitting, since that's the reason she got into teaching to begin with.
"Just making the connection with the kids and having fun with them and learning at the same time," Mrs. Jenny Midgett says. "I think they have respect for me because I have respect for them."
If you ask her students, she's a rock star, not just because she wears cool clothes, but because she understands them.
"She provides the culture in her classroom that is warm and inviting," says Jody Dahlseng, the principal at Perry Elementary. "She has high standards for her students and is really loved by them."
The class is in full Christmas spirit now, making ornaments for their parents, just another project to keep the kids, and Mrs. Midgett, motivated and excited to come back everyday.
"It doesn't matter what mood I leave the house in, as soon as I get here and see how happy they are to be here and smiling, it makes it worth while," Midgett says.
