Freeport police chief celebrates retirement

After 25 years with the Freeport Police Department, Chief Jerry Whitmore is retiring.

Whitmore's last day was Wednesday, November 27. He started with the department in 1988 and was appointed chief in 2002 by Mayor Jim Gitz. He was then re-appointed by Mayor George Gaulrapp. The department his retirement with a party Wednesday afternoon.

Whitmore has found a new position as a regional project coordinator for Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS).
