A Beloit man who should be behind bars is free, after he ran away from officers after being arrested Thursday.
Police say they were responding to a routine parole violations arrest at 1146 grant street in Beloit yesterday. What happened next was anything but ordinary.
40 year old Michael Kane was taken into custody in handcuffs in the back of a squad car. The car parked in one of the department's four garages before taking Kane to the prisoner holding area. That's when he managed to escape
Police are actively looking for Kane, who is described as a
white male, 5'10" tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He
was wearing jeans and a camouflage jacket. He was still in handcuffs when he ran away.
Captain Dan Risse of the Beloit Police Department says, "Janesville Police Department provided us a canine. We did some searching of the downtown area, we've done some searching in last known addresses, known associates, that kind of thing. But we have not been able to acquire Mr. Kane again. When we do, and we will, arrest Mr. Kane, he will be arrested for felony escape, theft, in addition to the probation violation,"
The man's been in trouble with the law before. His history includes property crime and illegal narcotics.
