Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon made a stop in Rockford Thursday to visit local emergency medical technicians and learn about their daily challenges.
The visit was in honor of Rural Health Day, which addresses difficulties rural residents face in getting access to health care. Simon is also asking Governor Pat Quinn to sign a bill currently on his desk that would allow EMTs to provide more patient services.
During her visit, Simon toured the Rockford Health Systems EMS building and met with members of the Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District and the Rockford Fire Department.
