IDHS to replace food for SNAP households affected by tornadoes

The Illinois Department of Human Services will issue replacement Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for eligible households who lost food in Sunday's tornadoes.

"Many families lost everything in the tornadoes and we are pleased to be able to offer immediate food assistance for qualifying families," IDHS Secretary Michelle R.B. Saddler said. "The SNAP program can help ensure that families have enough to eat while they rebuild their lives."

Active SNAP recipients who lost food purchased with those benefits during Sunday's storms or those who have experienced subsequent power outages of four hours or more can request replacement benefits until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.

To request that replacement, visit your local IDHS Family and Community Resource Center. Locations can be found at or by calling 800-843-6154.
