Students and staff at Pecatonica Elementary are having fun with their attire this week, all to help make a classmate feel more comfortable.
Kindergarten student Tommy has epilepsy and this week, he has to wear special monitors on his head to monitor his condition. As a result, Tommy is wearing a hat to class to cover the equipment.
To help Tommy feel more at ease and to show solidarity with him, the school has declared this week "Crazy Hat Week" and along with the fun, students are also learning some valuable lessons.
"It's a good way for students to learn compassion towards each other," Art Teacher Becky Gocken said.
Tommy will be able to take off the monitoring equipment on Friday.
