Pedro Sanchez Pedro Sanchez

An 18-year-old Belvidere man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for a June 2011 shooting that wounded one person.

Pedro Sanchez pled guilty of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and was sentenced Wednesday. Prosecutors say Sanchez is an admitted gang member. They say he fired shots at members of a rival gang in the 500 block of Starr Street on June 26, 2011, hitting one person and sending the bullet in and out of his abdomen. The shooting is said to be motivated by earlier harassment by the rival gang members.

At the times of the shooting Sanchez was considered a juvenile, but was prosecuted as an adult.
