Rockford Icehogs player helps promote literacy

In Rockford, one school hosts its first family literacy event to help promote literacy in the community.

St. James School invited kids and their parents to the event to bring families together. Special guest Terry Broadhurst from the Rockford Icehogs visited the school and read the book "Owl Moon". At least 20 families came to the event, and participated in other fun activities.

"Reading at the younger ages will prepare them for the rest of their life and its a skill that they will always use and will always need," said Carrie Lee, Second Grade Teacher at St. James.

The school plans to host its second family literacy event in the spring.
