Aldermen in Rock Island voted five to two Monday to allow bow-hunting within city limits.
The effort hopes to reduce the growing deer population within the community and will allow hunters to harvest the animals in eight designated areas. The trial bow-hunting season will begin next month and run through January 19. Hunters have until November 25 to send in applications to take part.
The two aldermen who voted against the measure said they are concerned about safety.
