Class certifies students to renovate, repair in lead environment

Illinois ranks second in the nation for number of lead poisoning cases. And Rockford nearly leads the state, also ranking in second place.

To help drive those numbers down, the Winnebago County Health Department is sponsoring an EPA lead certification class for 54 people.

The students will be certified renovators, able to do work in houses built before 1978. Those who aren't certified and do work on older homes can face fines.

The program is available for students between 16 and 24 years old.

If you are interested in the class, call 815-988-2755.
