Efforts are underway to change Rockford's image. And you can be a part of it.
A group, made of up local businessmen and civic leaders, wants to transform the city. Members say they're tired of seeing it on negative lists because of its high crime and poverty rates. One example of some recent bad publicity come from Forbes Magazine which called Rockford "miserable".
The group is holding an engagement summit to get others in the community involved in a goal to make Rockford a top 25 city by 2025.
"We as a community need to pull together all of our resources, all in the same direction to help us continue to grow and expand Rockford for our residents and have a long and prosperous future," said Einar Forsman, Rockford Chamber of Commerce President and CEO.
The event is on Thursday at the Coronado Theatre. Doors open at 5:30. If you can't make it, WREX has you covered. We will stream the entire event here on our website. The live stream begins at 6 pm.
