A semi carrying a tall load causes a chain reaction crash that slowed traffic on Bypass 20 in Rockford for hours.
Illinois State Police say a semi was heading west, when it hit the Perryville Road overpass around 12:30 Monday. It was carrying a machine inside a wooden crate which broke apart when it hit the overpass. Police say pieces of the crate hit an eastbound semi and as traffic was slowing down to avoid hitting debris, a box van hit a pickup truck and pushed it in to another semi. Police were on scene for several hours cleaning up the crash but no one was seriously hurt. The driver of the westbound semi that hit the overpass will get a ticket for being off his route.
