Rockford man charged with hitting state police vehicle


A Rockford man faces charges after Illinois State Police say he hit a stationary squad car early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred just before 2:00 a.m. near Forest Hills Road and Landstrom Road in Loves Park. An Illinois State Trooper had pulled another vehicle over for a traffic violation and while the trooper was out of his car, it was rear-ended by another vehicle. The trooper was not hurt.

Christopher J. Montalbano, 26, faces the following charges:

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • No Valid Driver's License
  • Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Yield to a Stationary Authorized Emergency Vehicle
  • Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident
  • Illegal Transportation of an Alcoholic Liquor

Montalbano was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
