Adopt-A-Soldier drive prepped to kick off through Postal Shoppe

The Postal Shoppe of Rockford will kick off its 13th annual holiday drive for the ADOPT-A-SOLDIER program on Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11, 2013.

ADOPT-A-SOLDIER allows local residents to show support for soldiers serving overseas by shipping care packages to them.

Participants choose a soldier's name from the Christmas tree in the store lobby at either the Edgebrook or Perryville Postal Shoppe location. They're given an empty box and a list of suggested items for the soldier and the Postal Shoppe will then ship the filled box out for a copay. The stores also offer a discount for the families of local soldiers.

"During our holiday drive, we ask the public to get involved in showing our military personnel that they are supported and not forgotten. We also accept donations from the public, to ship the items overseas" Postal Shoppe co-owner Larry Hinkle said.

The following items are suggested donations:

Recent magazines, CD's/DVD's, pre-packaged food products, razors and razor blades, powdered drink mixes, mp3 Players, I-pods, handy wipes, paper products and cash donations to help underwrite shipping costs.

The stores are located inside the Edgebrook Shopping Center at the corner of Alpine and Highcrest and at 2205 South Perryville Road in Rockford.
