Southern Illinois woman gets 10 years for abducting newborn

A southern Illinois woman will spend ten years in prison after she admitted she threatened a mother with a knife, tied her up, and took her newborn son.

Karen Nichols of rural Anna pleaded guilty to kidnapping and armed robbery in Union County. She was arrested at her home a short time after the incident and the boy was found unharmed.

The newborn's grandfather said the 44-year-old Nichols became friends with his daughter through social networking and Nichols offered to help the woman, who is from Johnston City.

Nichols was sentenced this week and will get credit for 129 days in jail.
