Belvidere Salvation Army taking applications for holiday assistance

Boone County residents in need of help this Christmas can apply for assistance at the Belvidere Salvation Army on Friday.

Applications for food baskets and toys will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8. To apply you will need the following:

  • Identification for each member of your household
    • This covers everyone living in the same house, whether you receive food stamps or not
    • All adults must have a current Illinois drivers license with a photo, Illinois photo ID card, or Mexican Consulate photo ID card - expired cards will not be accepted
    • Children must have a current public aid medical card - if you do not have one, you must bring a birth certificate. Children can only be counted if they live at the residence full time and custody papers are needed if the child does not live with its biological parents. Toys are for kids up to age 12.
    • Social Security cards are not considered proof of identification and are not needed.
  • Proof of ALL household gross income for the last four weeks
    • Examples include Social Security checks, check stubs, child support, pension, and SSI. If you are paid in cash you must bring a statement from your employer. This is required for everyone in the household.
  • Proof of residence
    • Examples include a lease, mortgage, rent receipt, or utility bill.

The Belvidere Salvation Army is located at 422 South Main Street.
