Rockford University hosts local teens for career day

Around 200 high school juniors and seniors from around the stateline area visited Rockford University Thursday to get some career advice from over 40 local businesses and agencies.

The university's Economics, Business, and Accounting department hosted the event and volunteers shared their experiences and advice for a variety of career options like engineering, education, health care, law, non-profits, and economics.

Rockford University's director of career services, Maurice West, discussed developing a career path and a representative from Workplace Staffing talked about the importance of networking. Other topics of discussion included how to present yourself to an employer and the skills and education needed for certain careers.

Auburn, East, Guilford, Jefferson, Rockford Christian, Harlem, and Beloit Memorial high schools all participated.
