Dixon officer chosen to evaluate national SWAT teams

A Dixon police officer was chosen to evaluate SWAT exercises of 36 teams from the U.S. and Brazil for a high-level competition in California last month.

Officer John Simonton, a retired Lieutenant of Illinois State Police SWAT Operations, was chosen by Urban Shield for his expertise in Nuclear Protection and Special Weapons and Tactics. While he worked for ISP, he developed procedures for the state's weapons of mass destruction team and evaluated leadership, intelligence gathering, planning, deployment, and more.

While in California, Simonton was one of 72 evaluators from around the country that assessed the exercises of teams from California, Florida, Texas, Minnesota, and Brazil.
