Brookfield Zoo's Africa exhibit is getting a new addition in the form of a baby female western lowland gorilla.
The baby was born November 4 to 18-year-old Koola and 33-year-old JoJo. Visitors to the zoo will be able to see the baby with her family in the Tropic World: Africa exhibit. She will be joined by her parents and Koola's nine-year-old daughter, Kamba, and 25-year-old mother, Binti.
JoJo came to Brookfield from the Lincoln Park Zoo last year to participate in a breeding and species survival program that hopes to bolstering the genetic diversity and numbers of western lowland gorillas.
According to officials, there are currently over 342 western lowland gorillas living in 53 accredited North American zoos.
