After losing their last two regular season games, the Stillman Valley Cardinals bounced back in a big way on Saturday.
The Cardinals defeated Bloomington Central Catholic in the first round of the IHSA football playoffs, 29-8. They had lost to Rockford Lutheran and Winnebago to close out their regular season, which made head coach Mike Lalor a little uneasy going into the playoffs, but Stillman Valley is now back in the win column.
"Until you go out and get it done, you never feel too good about things," Lalor said. "You can look good on paper, do well in practice, but you have to execute in games and we hadn't been doing that the previous couple of weeks. In some ways, the last part of the season we've had a lot of breakdowns. To say I was 100 percent confident going in, I wasn't. But I was very glad with the output when we were finishing up."
