Antioch man held without bond in deaths of wife, mother

A 54-year-old Antioch man is being held without bond in the deaths of his wife and mother.

Billy Varner was arrested in North Dakota over the weekend after police say robbed a church at gunpoint during Mass. He appeared in Lake County Court Tuesday.

Varner has been charged with first-degree murder for the slayings of his wife Peggy Henderson and his mother, Dorothy Varner. Henderson and Varner's bodies were found on October 28. Prosecutors say he nearly decapitated Henderson on October 26 and suffocated Varner two days later when she became suspicious.

Billy Varner has not been charged in North Dakota.
