Rockford city council approves increase in taxation & new representation

Posted: Updated:

Rockford's 6th Ward will soon have new representation.

We introduced you to Marcus Hill last week after Mayor Larry Morrissey made his recommendation public. City council voted on his appointment Monday night; it passed unanimously. Hill is scheduled to be sworn in next week. The 6th Ward's previous alderman, Vernon Hilton, resigned in September.

Also at Monday night's council meeting; Reclaiming First moves forward with council members' approval. Aldermen passed a resolution authorizing Winnebago County to impose a 2% hotel tax.

"What happens next is the county wanted all those resolutions to be issued to the county board. Then, the county would initiate the 2% tax ordinance." -says City of Rockford Administrator Jim Ryan.
