UPDATED: Death investigation in Rock County

UPDATED: As a result of search efforts during the past day and a half, the Sheriff's Office has seized numerous items of evidentiary value, including bone fragments from a burn pit. A sample of these fragments were transported by the Rock County Coroner's Office staff to the Wisconsin Crime Laboratory where they were tested and were determined to be female human remains.

Rock County Detectives continue further investigation into this incident.  Further forensic analysis will be necessary to determine the identity of the deceased.  At this time, Nathan Middleton remains in custody at the Rock County Jail on a probation hold.

PREVIOUS: In the late afternoon on November 1, 2013, the Rock County Sheriff's Office received information from the Fitchburg (WI) Police Department regarding the disappearance of eighteen year old, Aprina S. Paul from Fitchburg.  According to that information, she may have died at 12016 W. US Highway 14 in Rock County.  An occupant at that residence, twenty-nine year old, Nathan C. Middleton, has been interviewed and is currently being held at the Rock County Jail on a probation violation.

Detectives and Deputies from the Sheriff's Office along with the Rock County Coroner's Office are currently conducting an extensive search at the residence for evidence that would corroborate the information provided by the Fitchburg Police Department.

At this time, items have been seized that are being sent for forensic evaluation.  This investigation is still in its earliest phases and is ongoing at this time.  Further information will be provided as the investigation continues.
