NIU Football to Play Seven Home Games in 2015

Northern Illinois University will play seven home games in 2015, including visits from a pair of Mountain West Conference teams in UNLV (Sat., Sept. 5) and Wyoming (Sat., Sept. 26), highlighting the Huskies' 2015 non-conference schedule released Wednesday by NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier.

The Huskies, one of the winningest teams in the nation over the last four years, will also play host to Murray State (Sat., Sept. 12) in a non-conference home game and travel to Ohio State on Sept. 19.  NIU last played Ohio State in Columbus in the 2006 season-opener, when the No. 1 ranked Buckeyes prevailed 35-12, despite the efforts of Huskie tailback Garrett Wolfe, who ran for 171 yards on 26 carries and caught five passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.
"The 2015 schedule closely reflects the model we are striving for in our scheduling philosophy."  Frazier said.  "We want to play a minimum of six home games in Huskie Stadium with a seventh being played in the Chicagoland area.  Under the new College Football Playoff, we're going to be measured by strength of schedule and common opponents will be weighed heavily.   Games against teams like UNLV and Wyoming will help us in this area."
NIU will play UNLV in Las Vegas on Sept. 13, 2014 as part of a home-and-home series with the Rebels. Following the Cowboys' trip to DeKalb in 2015, NIU will travel to Laramie, Wyo. in the future.
The Huskies' non-conference schedules for 2014 and 2015 are now complete but Frazier said working on future schedules is a year-round exercise.
"Scheduling is constant," Frazier said.  "It's very important to the continuing success of our football program and our entire department.  We're pleased to have the 2014 and '15 schedules complete, but are always looking toward the future."
NIU has two home games remaining in 2013 as the Huskies will play host to Mid-American Conference West Division rivals Ball State and Western Michigan in a pair of critical league battles that will both air on an ESPN network.  NIU (8-0, 4-0 MAC) and Ball State (8-1, 5-0 MAC) meet Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Huskie Stadium, while the Huskies take on WMU on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m.
NIU is offering a two-game pack of tickets to NIU's final two home games for just $24.  The "MAC Two-Pack" tickets are available at the NIU Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m and 5 p.m., or by calling 815-753-PACK (7225) during regular business hours.
The NIU-Ball State game is "Heroes Day" at NIU as the Huskies will honor first responders and both veteran and active members of the military.  The Huskies will wear special jerseys in tribute to "Active Heroes" and members of all of the groups will be recognized prior to and throughout the game.  More information on the all of the activities and the Active Heroes jersey auction will be available soon on
On Tuesday night, Nov. 26, Northern Illinois will honor its 2013 seniors – including quarterback Jordan Lynch - during pregame ceremonies.  The contest has been designated as the team's annual "Black Out" night with all fans encouraged to wear black.
