"Stroll on State" event to light up downtown Rockford for the holidays

Downtown Rockford will light up with holiday cheer for the first annual Stroll on State.

The November 30th event will kick off a larger celebration called "Merry & Bright: A Downtown Holiday" with music, food, fun, and more. The stroll itself is a candlelight walk from City Hall to the PNC Bank Plaza for the lighting of the City of Rockford's official Christmas tree, a 30-foot evergreen complete with lights and ornaments. Strolling carolers, roaming musicians, street vendors, and food trucks will be on the way.

In addition to the walk, downtown restaurants will offer holiday-themed food and drinks and a holiday market in the lobby of City Hall will take care of all your shopping needs. Kids can visit Santa at Joe Marino Park and the former Water Street Cafe will transform into the Lollipop Cafe, where The Sweetery will sell its cakepops. Strollers can take a break and catch How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which will be projected onto the side of a building in the 300 block of East State. Ice skating will be offered beneath the Rockford Register Star tower.

Downtown will be decked out in the holiday spirit thanks to volunteers with Heartland Church, who will adorn the area with lights, garlands, ribbons, and large-scale decorations.

Stroll on State runs from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th. You can gather for the candlelight stroll at 5:30 and the tree will be lit at 6:15. Water Street will be closed for the entire event and State Street between 2nd Street and Wyman will close from around 5:30 to 6:30.
