Some of the best athletes from across the state gathered in the Rockford area this weekend for some fierce competition.
The Special Olympics was holding it's Fall games. Over 650 athletes were in the area for the event this weekend. They competed in volleyball and horse-back riding.
Special Olympics Illinois has 19 sports total with over 21,000 athletes.
"Although Special Olympics tries to de-emphasize the winning portion, it's competition and we all like to win so this is the opportunity to go to state and they have achieved so they're very excited to be here," said Debbie Kelly, Northwest Illinois Special Olympics Director.
Special Olympics Illinois is a not-for-profit organization. Games took place at Harlem High School and in Poplar Grove this weekend.
