11 adults and 4 children displaced in Rockford apartment fire

The Red Cross responded to help 11 adults and four children find a place to stay after a fire damaged an apartment building in the 3300 block of Sun Valley Terrace Thursday afternoon.

The Rockford Fire Department arrived just after 1:00 p.m. to find fire coming from a third-floor window. Crews got the flames, which originated in one apartment's bedroom, under control in about 15 minutes.

The apartment's occupant had left around 9:30 a.m. and the rest of the building's occupants got out safely. The fire damaged the roof over the involved apartment. No one was hurt and the estimated damage is $200,000.
