Senior wide receiver Delroy Russell Jr. (Richmond, Calif./Albany) hauled in his second award of the season on Tuesday morning when he was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Russell had the best performance of any wide receiver in Rockford University history this past weekend. The senior had six receptions for a school record 247 yards and also caught the longest pass in school history when he hauled in a 93-yard touchdown reception early in the first quarter for one of his two touchdowns on the day. Russell becomes the first Regent to ever be selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week and only the third offensive player in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference history.
Russell has had an excellent start to the season as he is ranked nationally in multiple categories. The junior currently sits third in all of NCAA Division III in receiving yards per game (154.0), 5th in total receiving yards (616), 21st in receiving touchdowns (5), 44th in all-purpose yards per game (153.5) and 77th in receptions per game (6). After four weeks of play, the Richmond, Calif. native sits atop the NACC in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and is second in receptions and all-purpose yards. He is also currently on pace to break the Rockford University single season records for receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and all-purpose yards.
The Rockford University football team returns home on Saturday, October 12th for a 2:00 p.m. game against Lakeland College.
