Officials in Poplar Grove are deciding whether to allow residents to keep chickens on their property.
Recently, both Machesney Park and Capron decided against allowing chicken coops in residential yards. However, proponents of the idea in Poplar Grove say it gives village residents easy access to eggs free from pesticides. Those against the idea fear the chickens may attract predators.
Related issues ranging from permits to aesthetics will be discussed at the November meeting of the planning and zoning commission.
