MASCOUTAH, Ill. (WREX) -

Thousands of Illinois' civilian military employees who were furloughed last week are back on the job.

Workers were taken off the job at Scott Air Force Base in southwestern Illinois  and the Great Lakes Naval Training Station north of Chicago as part of the federal government shutdown.

However, most of the affected workers were notified Sunday to return to work the following day. Around 3,500 employees were affected at the Air Force base and around 2,500 at the Naval training facility.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel recently ordered 350,000 military personnel to get back to work.
