Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning people about scams relating to the new online marketplace for shopping for health care.
The new marketplace opened Tuesday in Illinois and in other states across the country. Madigan warns scam artists may try to take advantage of the new program. Some scammers may try to obtain personal information to steal someone's identity and try to sell fake health insurance plans.
Madigan says consumers should never have to pay anyone to help them enroll in a health plan. She also says anyone working with a specialist should make sure that person is certified. You can find a list of certified specialists on the Illinois Department of Insurance website.
