Rockford's SwedishAmerican Health System acquires Rockford-based Physicians Care Network, Inc. The acquisition involves 550 independent and hospital-based physicians and healthcare providers and is expected to be completed in January of next year.
The Independent Physicians Association are groups of doctors who incorporate for the purpose of contracting with insurance companies. SwedishAmerican Health System Chief Operating Officer Richard Walsh says the acquisition will help both organizations. "This helps to assure that both SwedishAmerican and the physicians and other providers participating in the PCN provider panel will have a vehicle to enter into new arrangements that arise under healthcare reform."
SwedishAmerican is not acquiring any healthcare providers or physician practices as part of the PCN acquisition, and patient access to healthcare providers will not be affected. Information sessions with representatives of SwedishAmerican and Sage Technologies are currently being scheduled with local healthcare providers.
