Open Burning citations climb in Rockford

Rockford -

The Rockford Fire Department reminds people that fires, for anything other than cooking, are not allowed.

It's against City of Rockford ordinance to burn trash, yard waste or construction materials.  Campfires are also not allowed inside city limits.  You can only have small recreational fires that you use for cooking.  The Fire Department advises that you check with neighbors and have a hose or fire extinguisher near by if you're burning.  So far, over 40 citations have been written for Open Burning since the beginning of the year. Fines start at $150 but can climb as high as $500.
