Friday Night Football Week 5 Preview

Posted:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

We have a big slate of Friday Night Football games this week, including a key matchup between Auburn and Hononegah. Both teams are 2-2 as we hit the halfway point of the season, so it's a big swing game for both teams. Auburn's Christian Lopez has run for 400 yards and is averaging 10 yards a carry for the Knights. While Hononegah's Alex Martin is right behind him in rushing yards. The Indians picked up a much-needed win last week over Belvidere to snap a 2 game losing streak. Both of these teams lost to Belvidere North, and both played Boylan very tough.

Another key game in the NIC-10 standings features Belvidere North and Guilford. Guilford suffered its first loss of the season last week at Boylan. Before that game, Guilford had not allowed a single point through the first three games of the season. So they have a very stingy defense, which will need to come up big to slow down Belvidere North's passing attack. Blue Thunder QB Jace Bankord has thrown for 300 yards in back-to-back games, and his favorite target Kevin Tevebaugh leads the NIC-10 in receiving.

Harlem hits the road this week to face a Belvidere team that's hungry for a win. The Bucs have lost two straight games after winning their first two games of the season. They lost to Hononegah last week, and Auburn the week before that. The Huskies are tied with Guilford at 3-1 for 2nd place in the conference, with their only loss coming to Boylan. Harlem took care of business against Belvidere North last week.

Boylan tries to make it 70 straight NIC-10 wins as the Titans travel to Freeport. The Pretzels lost to East last week, while Boylan took care of Guilford to improve to 4-0 and become the final undefeated team in the NIC-10.

The final game in the NIC-10 features East and Jefferson playing at Auburn's Wyeth Stadium. East picked up its first win of the season last week in a thriller with Freeport. That was the E-Rabs homecoming game. Jefferson is 0-4 so far on the season, and has been outscored 164-36 through those four games.

Outside of the NIC-10, Byron and Stillman Valley play their classic rivalry game, while Oregon travels to Rockford Lutheran. And Lena-Winslow hosts Eastland/Pearl City in a key NUIC Northwest matchup. For all your scores and highlights, tune into Friday Night Football at about 10:15.
