Thousands of Illinois veterans contribute to history project

The Illinois Veterans History Project aims to share the history of the state's soldiers, and thousands of veterans are adding their stories.

The project was started by Secretary of State and Army veteran Jesse White in 2004 and has grown to include historical accounts from 6,500 Illinois veterans from those who served in World War I to those who served in present conflicts.

The collection, which includes details on when and where a veteran served and details on their units, can be found online. Veterans' personal videos and written stories can also be included.
