A man recognized for saving the lives of hundreds of people during an emergency plane landing on the Hudson River was honored in Rockford during the Salvation Army's annual civic luncheon.
Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger was the keynote speaker at the 900-guest luncheon. He piloted US Airways Flight 1549, which he safely landed on the Hudson in 2009.
"Hope appeared that day in the face of Captain 'Sully' Sullenberger and similarly there are many people across the world who believe their lives are so difficult and so unimaginable that they are without hope and hope appears once again in the organization known around the world as the Salvation Army," Salvation Army Director of Development Tara Blazer said.
