Belvidere South students' creations rocket into space

Students in Mrs. Gonet's special education class at Belvidere South Middle School got a chance to put what they've learned in the classroom to use on the launch pad.

The class has been learning about science and how it relates to space. As part of their lesson plan, they were able to build their own rockets with the help of the industrial arts teacher Mr. George Waddell.

The students were finally able to put their projects to the test Tuesday morning.

"They get to use different tools, machines, you know we've used drill presses in there, we've used sanders, we've used saws," Mr. Waddell explained. "You know we've painted and stained, so they're always happy to come and we're always happy to have them."

Electricity is next up for the students, who will put their skills to the test by building lamps.
