Winnebago County Animal Services kicks off $5 cat adoption event

Although nearly 500 cats have been adopted from Winnebago County Animal Services this year, their facility is still full of cats and kittens in need of loving homes.

To help find the animals new homes, WCAS is hosting its $5 Fall Feline Frenzy Adoption Event from Tuesday through October 31. During that time, cats or kittens can be adopted for just $5. Adoptions include free spay or neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations, rabies shot, one year Winnebago County rabies tag, bag of food, and more.

Adopters must qualify under normal procedures and one cat or kitten can be adopted at the reduced fee and a second at the regular fee. The discount is available at Animals Services and its off-site adoption locations in the Machesney Park PetSmart and the Loves Park Terri's Aqualand stores.

There are currently over 80 cats available for adoption and bringing a cat home has many advantages, including:

  • They don't need daily walks
  • They don't need to be let outside several times a day
  • They're perfect for busy, employed, or active people
  • They're self-cleaning and don't' need baths
  • They're perfect for apartments
  • They're usually quieter than other pets
  • They're perfect companions for seniors
