According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Winnebago County Housing Authority's Section 8 program has a perfect score for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
The program has been used to leverage $55 million in renovation projects to the county, added property tax paid, improved housing, and privatized 83 percent of public housing units for low-income families, seniors, disabled families, and veterans.
In addition, the WCHA brings $3 million to Winnebago and Stephenson counties each year that is used by owners to pay taxes, employ maintenance agents, and upgrade units.
