ROCKFORD (WREX) -

The Chicago Rockford International Airport is reporting an increase of 9.9 percent in traffic between August 2013 and August 2012.

The airport is attributing the rising numbers to Allegiant's service to Ft. Myers/ Punta Gorda, Florida and Frontier using a larger aircraft for flights to Denver. Flights leaving RFD last month had an average load factor of 97 percent.

Last month the airport served 14,786 passengers and 13,452 passengers in August 2012. So far this year, RFD has served 165,517 passengers, up 8.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
