The average price of gas in Rockford dropped by 6.1 cents last week, and relief is expected to continue.
The average price of gas was $3.48 on Sunday, according to GasBuddy.com's survey of 139 local outlets. That price is 49.3 cents lower than one year ago and 4.1 cents lower than last month.
Nationally, the price per gallon of gas dropped 4.5 cents last week to an average price of $3.49, or 32.1 cents lower than one year ago and 7.3 cents lower than last month.
"Gasoline prices continue to move lower nationally as we've now officially moved into fall," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Looking forward, we're likely to see additional relief at pumps in the months ahead, and it's quite possible that by the time we're observing Thanksgiving that gasoline prices will be twenty or more cents per gallon lower."
