Friday Night Football Preview

Posted:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

We have a big slate of Friday Night Football games this week, highlighted by a NIC-10 showdown between Boylan and Guilford. Boylan puts its 68 game conference winning streak on the line again this week, against a fellow unbeaten team. The Guilford Vikings are 3-0, and have pitched three straight shutouts to start the year. It's the first time a NIC-10 team has recorded 3 straight shutouts in 19 years. Guilford has outscored its opponents 113-0 through three games. Boylan has been tested in all three of its games so far, beating Auburn, Hononegah and Harlem in the first three weeks.

Belvidere North pulled off a big win over Hononegah last week, making the Blue Thunder 2-1 on the season after getting a comeback win over Auburn in week two. North makes the trip to Machesney Park to face Harlem tonight. The Huskies are also 2-1 on the season after losing to Boylan last Friday Night. Harlem has scored the 2nd most points of any team in the NIC-10 through the first three weeks of the season.

Auburn is trying to work its way up the standings after losing its first two games. The Knights host fellow Rockford Public School rival Jefferson at the stadium they share. Auburn's defense had a strong performance in last week's win over Belvidere. Jefferson played tough against Freeport, but lost 35-28, as the J-Hawks fell to 0-3.

Hononegah is riding a rare two game losing streak. The Indians were upset by Belvidere North last Friday night, so they are looking to bounce back against Belvidere tonight. The Bucs struggled in a loss to Auburn last week, but are still 2-1 so far on the season. Hononegah needs a win to get back in the mix in the NIC-10.

The final game in the NIC-10 features Freeport and East playing at Guilford's Swanson Stadium. Freeport is coming off a 35-28 win over Jefferson, in which the Pretzels got off to an early lead and had to hold off the J-Hawks. East is 0-3 and has been outscored 115-6 through three games. Freeport running back Steve McShane continues to get healthier. He played in limited action last week.

Outside of the NIC-10, Rockford Lutheran takes on Winnebago in a battle of unbeaten Big Northern West teams. That game is at Winnebago and kicks off at 7:00. Stillman Valley tries to stay perfect as the Cardinals host Mendota, Byron takes on Rock Falls, and Oregon travels to North Boone. Christian Life also has a big game with Alden-Hebron.
