Illinois sets record for fewest farm deaths in a year

Illinois saw just 12 farm-related deaths from June 2012 to June 2013, the lowest number the state has seen in 35 years.

Country Financial has been keeping track of farm-related deaths through newspaper clippings for the last 35 years. Over the last year, the insurer has found tractor run-over and rollover deaths along with roadway collision deaths were the leading cause of farm-related fatalities.

When compared to the year before, tractor run-over and rollover deaths were down from eight to four and roadway collision fatalities were down from seven to four. One death was caused by grain bin suffocation.
