An 88-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 20 Monday evening.
The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office received a call for a pedestrian kneeling in the road on Highway 20 just before 8:30 p.m. As the caller was on the phone, a vehicle began approaching the man, identified as Walter Ludwisiak, Sr. Because of how and where Ludwisiak was kneeling, sheriff's officials say the driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid hitting him.
Ludwisiak was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver who hit him is being withheld at this time and the crash is still under investigation.
