2 injured in DeKalb County car/motorcycle crash

Two people were taken to area hospitals after a car and motorcycle collided at Perry Road and University Road in DeKalb County just before 7:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Upon arrival, police found 49-year-old Richard Kane of Steward lying in the westbound lane of Perry Road. His 2005 Suzuki motorcycle was in the north side ditch and had extensive damage. A 2005 Pontiac driven by 29-year-old Ericka Beard of DeKalb was on the south side of the intersection, on University Road, with extensive damage to the rear passenger side.

Investigation showed the motorcycle was going east on Perry Road and the Pontiac was going in the opposite direction before making a southbound turn onto University, in front of the motorcycle.

LifeLine Helicopter was called in to fly Kane to OSF Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford and Beard was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

Beard was cited for failure to yield when turning left.
