More Illinois prisons are implementing a new plan to serve just two meals a day to inmates instead of the standard three.
The new brunch and dinner meals are larger than the traditional ones and are served on a new schedule. A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections claims inmates like the new plan because currently breakfast can be served as early as 4:00 a.m.
The new meal plan is also meant to be easier on prison staff, because they will have less to prepare, serve, and clean up. However, a watchdog group says inmates at a Canton prison were not happy with portion sizes.
