The Illinois Department of Public Health has reported its first death due to the West Nile virus this year.
A Logan County man in his mid-80s passed away September 10th. He contracted the virus in August. The death was confirmed by a private lab, according to the Macon County Health Department. The IDPH is confirming the results.
West Nile has been reported in 57 Illinois counties so far this year and the first human case was reported August 21 in McHenry County.
